What we do for the planet
Packaging
Recieving a package from YOEK should feel like receiving a gift. We pay great attention to the packaging of our products. Not only does it need to look beautiful, but it’s also essential that the products are well-protected during transit.
Packaging often ends up being thrown away immediately. That's why we’ve sought out better materials. The combination of these three key aspects has led YOEK to adopt the following practices:
- Our polybags are made from 100% recycled plastic. This ensures the products are fully protected during transport, but without using virgin materials.
- Our hangtags are made from FSC-certified paper, which guarantees that the paper comes from responsibly managed forests.
- The fabric labels in YOEK garments are made from 100% recycled polyester.
Transport
We ensure that garments are transported by truck as much as possible, reducing unnecessary air freight. We make sure to place orders in time so that new collections can be delivered by truck to our warehouse. Additionally, we adjust the size of our boxes according to the order quantity, ensuring that trucks are filled efficiently and there is no empty space.
Footprint
It’s important to measure what and where our largest polluters lie. To this end, we are working on a five-year plan. This starts with Life Cycle Assessments and a Company Carbon Footprint measurement. We're still in the early stages and are realising just how challenging it is to gather certain information from our supply chain. Fortunately, more initiatives are emerging that can help with this. It’s also crucial that sustainability measures are not solely placed on our suppliers. Many sustainability requirements are currently being passed down the chain, but it’s vital that brands take responsibility themselves.
Chemicals
The use of chemicals in the fashion industry is unavoidable. Therefore, it’s important that we closely monitor their use, ensuring everything complies with the appropriate regulations. YOEK has a Restricted Substances List (RSL), which all suppliers must sign. This list details which chemicals can be used and in what quantities. This is also monitored by an independent organisation.
Returns
Garments that are returned are thoroughly checked and, if possible, re-sold. Nothing is thrown away or burned. If an item can’t be added back to the new stock, it’s sold at our sample sale. Items that don’t sell after several sample sales are donated to charity.
